In their current home decor catalog, Land’s End has positioned shutters in one of their most prominent showcase pictures. These plantation shutters are positioned in the upper left corner setting a strong upscale tone for the overall display.

On Sunday, August 21 Home Takeover with Simon and Tomas will premiere on the OWN Network. The first of six one-hour episodes will feature Simon Davies and Tomas Cederlund redesigning a home in Reseda, California near Los Angeles. One of the windows will use new interior plantation shutters from Horizon Shutters which will completely transform the window. Watch and find out what happens.

Wow. The summer HEAT is officially here. The windows are closed and the air conditioning is on. One way to conserve that expensive cool air is to insulate your windows with interior shutters. Solid wood interior shutters do no transport energy, therefore they will keep the warm air outside and the cool air inside. Shutters are thicker and more dense than most other types of window coverings, making them the best window treatment to conserve energy.

Rotating the wide lovers of a plantation shutter allow for a large amount of light an visibility through the louvers. Plantation shutters hinge to the side of the window opening and can swing to either side.

Earth Day – Shutters

We like Earth Day. It is a great way to kick-start habits that will conserve our planet. There will be a variety of suggestions, all of which are wonderful ideas toward living a life that results in a cleaner, healthier planet. We plan to continue recycling, which includes paper, plastics, and used electronics. We have also installed energy-efficient lighting, low-flow toilets, and are working on planting a rain garden around our facility.

Attach Shutter Hinges

Here is our inaugural video. It is not a thriller! In the future our subject and production value will improve. Here we demonstrate how to attach hanging hinges that have been mortised into a plantation shutter. A mortise is cut into the shutter panel to minimize the light gap between the window jamb and shutter panel. Our future videos will be featured at  All About Shutters: YouTube.

Stair Landing Shutters

Shutters are perfect window treatment to install in a staircase. Interior shutters do not project into the walk space or interfere with progress up or down the stairs like drapes that can be snagged. Shutters installed above stairs will rarely be opened to the side of the window.
